and Rehabilitation™
What is Nose-Centric™?
Nose-Centric Dog Training and Rehabilitation is a dog training system that optimizes a dog’s natural behaviors, especially sniffing, to promote healing, recovery from fear, improve behavior, and reduce reactivity.
This method brings the dog’s sense of smell to the forefront of training and rehabilitation, from the overlooked to the forefront.
After watching, studying, rehabilitating, and training dogs for 15 years, I have learned that utilizing a dog’s sense of smell, and other natural behaviors, can improve confidence, attentiveness, and positive behavior while reducing reactivity. We can also form deeper, trusting connections with our dogs by speaking their language of sniffing.
Learn how to truly connect with a fearful dog.
Let me show you how to make a real difference in the lives of fearful and feral dogs who traditional training methods have failed.
Help your dog learn how to be comfortable with you and other people, be happy to have a leash put on and go for a walk, like to be touched, come when called, not hide in the house or yard, and live a fulfilling life with a higher level of welfare, all within a reasonable amount of time.
Use a dog’s natural behaviors, especially sniffing, to help them.
A dog’s nose is for more than just sniffing — it’s the key to their wellbeing. Nose-Centric™ channels natural behaviors like sniffing, searching, and exploring to lower stress, support recovery from fear, and create positive experiences that reduce reactivity.
By basing training on behaviors that come naturally to a dog, we give dogs a way to process their environment safely and confidently.
This science-based approach doesn’t fight against instinct — it works with it. When dogs are allowed to follow their nose, they unlock calmer states of mind, greater trust in their handlers, and an eagerness to engage with the world around them. The result is not just better behavior, but a healthier, more balanced life.
A method to reach severely fearful and feral dogs and earn their trust.
Some dogs shut down completely — too afraid to take food, be touched, or even move freely around people.
Nose-Centric™ offers a path forward by meeting fearful and feral dogs where they are while using their natural instincts to explore and sniff as the first step toward safety and connection. With patience and consistency, even the most fearful or feral dogs can begin to let down their guard.
As they learn to trust their nose — and the calm presence guiding them — they discover that people, leashes, and gentle touch don’t have to be frightening. Step by step, this method turns fear into confidence and survival into genuine companionship.

Who I Can Help
Dog Parent Support
I have helped my clients improve their dogs’ problematic behavior by enhancing relationships, trust, and communication with their canine companions since 2014, with a particular focus on dogs that are fearful or feral. I have taught clients to help their dogs be confident, enjoy walks, to not jump up, have good house manners, walk on leash without reacting, and to live in peaceful co-existence.
I assisted other trainers in solving advanced or severe cases while teaching them skills to use for other clients’ dogs.
“We really appreciate your wisdom and your loving approach to training.”
— Barbara & Teddy
“We wouldn’t have gotten to this milestone without you, and I am grateful every day.”
— Suzanne & Romeo
Dog Rescues and Shelters
I have taught shelter staff and rescue volunteers how to save the lives of fearful and feral dogs with leash skills, social skills, and confidence needed for adoption is one of my passions.
“Julie’s behavioral training skills have helped a great number of our rescued dogs become adoptable…she has helped us in the rehabilitation part of our mission by providing behavioral training for many of our more difficult rescued dogs.”
— Margaret
“Julie has been a Godsend to a group of feral puppies we acquired. She really helped the volunteers at our shelter overcome our fear of "pushing" the dogs past their comfort zone. (The word pushing is in quotes because it is so slow and gentle you wouldn't recognize it as such!) She is a master at getting them engaged in a way that taps into their instinct to be curious and sniff; in other words, be a dog!”
— Anne
Dog Trainers & Pros
Dog trainers, rescuers, veterinary staff, and other canine professionals can adopt Nose-Centric techniques to build stronger bonds and trust with all dogs, especially with aloof and fearful dogs. Once a strong foundation of trust is established, the dogs’ potential expands greatly, and all other training becomes easier for both human and dog.
“I left being able to understand dogs on a deeper level, which has helped me become a better dog trainer. You both cultivated a safe space not only for me & the other attendees to learn about the dogs but also for Reba & the other feral dogs to learn to trust. It was such a powerful experience that left me feeling inspired!”
— Lindsey
