Consultation - $250 for 2 1/2 hrs.
This is the first lesson and lasts about 2 1/2 hours. We will talk about how to improve trust, relationship and communication with your dog plus work on specific concerns that may include reducing reactivity, fear, anxiety, house manners, leash walking, and inter-dog aggression. This is an in-depth lesson. It is best for everyone that interacts with the dog on a daily basis to be present at training. This lesson can cover multiple dogs, but an extra fee for time over 2 1/2 hours may apply at $75 per hour. The lesson price includes a collar or leash dependent on your dog’s needs. Many of my clients achieve great progress in one or two lessons.
I ask my clients to be ready to change how they think of and relate to their dog with an open mind. The improvements that result will be worth it and your dog will thank you.
$250 East Mountain or NE Albuquerque, New Mexico area
Other areas - travel fees may apply.
Hourly lessons - $75/hour.
This is the next step after your consultation. In this lesson we will expand on changes and training we covered in the consultation. We can focus on more details and problem areas. We can take a field trip to a park or other location where you would like help with your dog. How many lessons you take depends on your goals and your dog’s behavior severity. Many times my clients find a consultation and 2 lessons sufficient.
Virtual Video Lessons or Consulting -

This option is for dog trainers or pet parents that want coaching virtually. I have successfully helped many people struggling with behavior concerns or fearful or feral dogs virtually. This option also works for trainers and their clients’ dogs that may need some extra help in getting the dog to its fullest potential. As a trainer, you can get paid for training a client’s dog while gaining knowledge to help other dogs.
One on one consulting for longer sessions or long-distance travel is possible. Please inquire via email julie@hart2heartcanine.com
I strive to close the gap between the dog and human species by improving understanding, communication and trust between humans and dogs. I teach humans how to help dogs to be more confident, calm, and content. I combine improving relationship, trust building exercises, leading your dog to better choices, and obedience training to help my clients achieve success with their dog. Dog training is an art, not an exact science. I use creativity and a combination of many techniques, depending on the individual dog-human team in front of me. I teach clients how to communicate with dogs using the dog’s language, plus how to effectively teach your dog some human language.
A dog’s nose is tied to a dog’s cognition abilities. If the nose isn’t being used, which is often the case in fearful or reactive dogs, the dog will not assess the environment accurately. I focus on solving this cause of problematic symptoms such as reactivity and fear.
From years of having a pack of 4 or more dogs, and integrating many foster dogs into my home, I believe dogs are social pack animals. Most dogs are more content and less reactive if their human fairly and benevolently protects and guides them.
I have rehabilitated severely fearful and feral dogs since 2009. I can work with dogs that don’t have leash skills and won’t take food as rewards. Medication does not equal rehabilitation for fearful dogs. All dogs, but particularly fearful dogs, value movement, exercise, sniffing, exploring and belonging to a stable social group. These are the biggest rewards for dogs and I teach people to join their fearful dogs in doing these activities to promote rehabilitation. Dogs are resilient creatures and humans often underestimate the ability of dogs to change simply to feel calmer, safer, and more confident. I guide dogs to achieve bravery and limit their ability to practice fearful behavior through a structured environment. I have developed a proven method involving a routine, crate time, leash training, and confidence building activities that can rehabilitate a fearful or feral dog to become a great pet.
I am often asked what methods I use in my training. I use methods that get positive results for the dog. My training is relationship based, meaning I develop a trusting partnership first and foremost between human and dog. This makes any obedience training needed minimal and easier. I use versatility and creativity, plus real-life scenarios in my training. I support Cynopraxic training, Relationship-Based training, and the original LIMA (least intrusive minimally aversive) principle. I do not limit myself or the dog’s potential based on one quadrant, method, or dogma of dog training.
I ask my clients to be ready to change how they think of and relate to their dog with an open mind. The changes that result will be worth it. I give my clients quality input in the form of experienced advice, but the output from you to your dog will make all the difference.
